West Springfield High School said farewell to Vice-Principal Michael Pescitelli on Feb. 6 as he left the school to assume a new role in the district. Mr. Pescitelli served as vice principal of the high school from August 2024 to February 2025. He has since been appointed as principal of Mittineague Elementary School. Although his stay at WSHS was a short one, he will be missed by the administration, faculty, and student body.
A veteran educator with twelve years of teaching experience, Mr. Pescitelli came to WSHS with a diverse background, having worked as a math teacher, assistant principal, and even with pre-kindergarten students. His wide range of experience made him an invaluable asset to the school, and his commitment to student success was evident in everything he did.
Throughout his time at WSHS, Mr. Pescitelli’s daily responsibilities included overseeing multiple departments, handling student issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of scheduling and student needs. He was dedicated to supporting students. Senior Finn Hernandez said, “It didn’t matter if I was in trouble, Mr. P. was always flexible and empathetic.” One of the most rewarding aspects of the job, he shared, was the opportunity to connect with students and help them navigate challenges. “No day is ever the same,” he said. Mr. Pescitelli also noted that his favorite memories from WSHS included attending school events like dances and Homecoming, where he got to see students in a different light and build connections outside of the classroom.
As he prepares to take on the role of Principal at Mitt, Mr. Pescitelli leaves with a lasting message for the students of WSHS: “Just continue to try and be open to learning.” His advice is a reminder to embrace growth and always remain open-minded, lessons that will stay with the community long after his departure. While he will be missed, we wish him all the best as he moves on to the next chapter in his career.
