In a thrilling season opener, the West Springfield Track and Field team edged out the Ludlow Lions with a razor-thin 74–71 victory at the Ludlow High School on April 8, 2025. Despite the wet conditions, West Side showed its grit and determination, battling one of the top track and field programs in Western Massachusetts.
The meet came down to just three points, making every event and effort crucial. The competition was fierce, but West Side stood strong and won. Several standout performances helped secure the win. Jaisyn Fasser blazed through the 800 meters with an impressive 2:01.1 while Jammel Roberson launched himself to 40 feet, 7.5 inches in the triple jump. Nathan Renaud clocked a solid 53.00 in the 400 meters, and Johnny Gingerhu sprinted to a 23.6 finish in the 200 meters.
In the sprints, Jaedyn Beamount posted an 11.4 in the 100 meters. Long-distance runner “Kung Fu Kenny” delivered a strong 10:25 in the two-mile, and Caleb Tallis threw 39 feet 4.25 inches in the shot put. Javy Ferrer Ramos cleared 5 feet 4 inches in the high jump, contributing vital points to the scoreboard.
Relay teams also played a key role. The 4 x 100 team Johnny, Jaedyn, Javy, and Damien finished in 46.5 seconds. The 4 x 400 team of Jaisyn, Asher, Nate, and Kenny closed out the meet with a strong performance that helped clinch the victory.
Even though West Side was predicted to lose, head Coach Jackson Weber believed in his team, saying, “Yes, I was confident that we would win because I knew we would do better than expected.” In the end, the Terriers showed their West Side spirit and beat the Ludlow Lions!
